First off, my belated Happy New Year wishes to all of you. Looking forward to what the world of Big Brother brings us in 2014.
As some of you know, we’ve already had an international incident of sorts spanning the continents and amongst different national incarnations of the shows.
Boxer Evander Holyfield (most famous for a 1997 fight with Mike Tyson when Tyson decided to get himself DQ’ed by biting Evander’s ear twice) made waves on the UK’s first Celebrity Big Brother of the year, saying that being a homosexual is the equivalent of being disabled. Show producers reprimanded Holyfield (with fears of the infamous 2007 incident Jade Goody that caused a huge controversy in the UK still in their memories) for what he had said, and the champion boxer was the first evicted on Day 8.
What was interesting about the incident over here in the US (not to mention how it was basically a “Duck Dynasty” incident handled differently in a different culture) is that Aaryn Gries bashed Holyfield for his comments.
Yes, that Aaryn Gries. You know, she of the “go make fried rice” comments in her tenure in a Big Brother house far, far away?
How did we go from Aaryn The Race Baiter to Aaryn The Non-Homophobe?
According to some other sources, Aaryn and BB15 houseguest Jessie Kowalski had a tryst in the jury house, with Aaryn implying in tweets that the tryst involved tribadism (the Wikipedia definition is NSFW) by using scissor icons in the tweets.
As for me, I’m still trying to figure this all out.
More next month.
